Dr. Schär USA, a maker of gluten-free foods, announced this week that it has broken ground on a 42,000-square-foot expansion at its Logan Township manufacturing facility.
The company, which has its global headquarters in Italy, said the expansion is needed to keep up with growing demand for gluten-free bread. The plant produces sliced bread and rolls for the North American market.
CEO Hannes Berger noted at the groundbreaking that the expansion comes 10 years after the debut of the New Jersey plant.
“As we have expanded the U.S. business over the past nine years, we have surpassed the manufacturing capabilities of our current manufacturing facility,” Marketing Director Margot Gunther said in a prepared statement. “This plant expansion will be critical for continuing to grow our operations in the U.S. and offer better quality and service to our consumers.”
The expansion is expected to be completed in 2022.
